Come and work in sunny Bournemouth. Friendly department in Vascular hub hospital. Great quality of life in beautiful Dorset but less than 2 hours by train from London
Due to the retirement of a long serving colleague we would like to recruit a person for a post in the Clinical Measurement Department which is within Radiology (X-Ray) at RBH. Our department's main function is to carry out specialist tests on blood flow using various devices but particularly using ultrasound scanners. We also run the upper Gastrointestinal Physiology service where catheters are passed into the oesophagus to test for swallowing difficulties and acid reflux.
Have a look at our website. https://www.uhd.nhs.uk/services/radiology/clinical-measurement
We are looking for a hard-working, enthusiastic and friendly vascular scientist to join the team for 4 days / week but there is likely to be an opportunity for the post to become full-time in future. The candidate should have full accreditation with the Society for Vascular Technology of Great Britain & Ireland and / or have completed the NSHCS Scientist Training Programme as a Vascular Scientist. Vascular Scientists who have trained in the STP scheme who have not yet obtained AVS would be strongly encouraged and assisted to do so. This post is to work with 4 other vascular scientists and 3 assistants. The candidate would be based at RBH but may be required to work at Poole hospital (8 miles away) from time to time on a rota. Two of our vascular scientists trained here under the STP scheme and we currently have an STP trainee in her 1st year.
Royal Bournemouth Hospital is the Vascular hub for Dorset and South Wiltshire with 8 Consultant Vascular surgeons and a very active Interventional Radiology department. We provide duplex scanning and ABPIs in up to 8 one- stop clinics / week. We have 3 duplex scanners, 2 (GE) in the main department and one (Samsung) in our own room in vascular outpatients.
The successful applicant will be empathetic, organised and meticulous. The emphasis is always on maintaining high standards, achieving a good throughput of patients while giving all patients the best possible care. We carry out most of the usual vascular diagnostics scans and tests as well as AV fistula pre op and post op assessment, duplex for temporal arteritis, graft and stent surveillance, iliac venous stent surveillance, toe pressure assessment and air plethysmography(occasionally). Training will be provided when needed.
Our department is small and friendly but is within the Radiology Directorate giving us administrative support and including us within their reporting and PACs systems. We also maintain strong links with colleagues in Medical Physics and Radiology at Poole Hospital which, with Bournemouth is now part of University Hospitals Dorset.
This is an attractive area in which to live and work. We only a short distance from beautiful beaches and excellent leisure facilities. The new Forest, the Purbecks and beautiful Dorset countryside are only a short drive or cycle away. This region boasts arguably the best sailing opportunities in the UK; the weather is better than most parts too! There are fast road & rail links to London.
